Dear ;

Welcome to this newsletter update through April 30. I invite you to get a nice cup of herbal tea, lean back in a comfortable chair and read this at your leisure. Breathe deep; be present; smell the flowers popping up from the rain (unless you're allergic to them!) Let's see what folks are up to...

Piper Slattery has released a beautifully cathartic single; 'Mother' . An accomplished guitarist, she's unique, gifted, determined and her trajectory is skywards.

More about her:
Piper has come back from significant physical and emotional trauma to be a strong, beautiful young artist with the ironic Instagram moniker 'pipsqueek'. A gymnast who used to be in a back brace, she writes like an old soul on a mission!

***********************************
Dee Rock (aka Dreadlock cowboy) released a powerful new video on his single 'Wild Mustang'.

More about him:
Among his many credits as singer, songwriter and producer, Dee wrote the soundtrack for the Warner Brothers' movie 'Divas'. His songwriting & guitar playing can be heard on the TLC show 'American Chopper' as well as Discovery Channel biker show 'Southern Steel Milwaukee Iron', for which he also sings the theme song. I had the great pleasure of singing bgvs on his debut solo CD, produced by Tom Paden. To know Dee is to love him and catch his contageous energy!

**********************************
Kacey Musgraves won 4... count em, FOUR... Grammy Awards including the coveted "Album of the Year" for "Golden Hour". I absolutely love this album! She also beat out Miranda Lambert for 'Best Female Artist' at the ACMs. Lambert previously put Kacey on the big map by recording Kacey's song 'This Ain't Your Mama's Broken Heart'.

More about her:
According to her interview in ET, after the Grammy show she (who hadn't seen a carb in a while) sat in her Valentino dress and ate a giant cheeseburger, a fried chicken sandwich and fries. (This was AFTER singing, of course:)

**********************************

Preston James signed his first publishing deal (a great one!) with 'Downtown Music Publishing'. Congratulations, man you are steadily going into the big lightbulbs!

More about him:

My student since his mid teens, Preston is now old enough to rent his own apartment, drive a car, have a girlfriend and a dog! What more is there to life? Oh yeah and a ton of buzz on Music Row:)

************************************
Jona Ardyn released a video on her single "Woman", for which I was her vocal producer.

More about her:

Jona is one of those renaissance women with masterful skills in many arenas. She is a Polish jazz singer, a session viola player, prolific songwriter and multi linguist. I was honored to be called in as vocal producer by her producer Laura Lorraine Culbertson for Jona's first English project. She is both a consummate professional and a joyful blast!

***********************************

Jenny Tolman has two singles out... first "My Welcome Mat" was featured in 'Cowboys and Indians' magazine. Somebody else took it up... She flew to LA and got to watch actor Jeff Bridges sing it in his concert (who knew he sang?)!

Next she released "High Class White Trash" and did a hilarious acoustic version video. Watch it and read the article in 'The Boot' magazine.

More about her:
Jenny is a big endorser of 'gratitude'. She has an ongoing Facebook contest called 'Jenny's Joy Jar', and does an acoustic cover on the winner's choice of song. I am grateful I get to hear her new songs first when she brings them into lessons!

***********************************

Australian folk singer Edward Bassingthwaighte, under the name Tree Brother, released a video of a 10 song acoustic performance with multi-instrumentalist Alex Burkoy.

More about him:
Ed is a highly regarded holistic home visit veterinarian. An overall creative spirit, he has been working on writing, recording and performing his original songs for many years. We've been working over webcam for a while; I'm very happy he's finally out there sharing these songs publicly!

PRESENTATIONS:

Industry veteran Jamie Nehasil invited me to teach a class in vocal production at Dark Horse Institute. The students were learning to produce and engineer music, and I showed them some ninja strategies to get vocal magic at their mics.

*******************************************

Invited by WSM's Chris Kulick, I was on the panel at the Music City Mentors event with Steve Gibson, Teea Goins, Devon O'Day. Stories were told:) It was very well attended and will probably become an annual event.

RECORDING STUDIO:

I did the vocal production for Piper Slattery on 'Mother' (story above).

********************************************

I joined old friends Michael Black and Vickie Carrico on background vocals for artist Cindy Hughlett, produced by dear friend Ron Oates. Family reunion time!

********************************************

And I did vocal production for smooth-voiced R&B artist and songwriter 'Sincere' at Mainframe, Nathan Smith at the board. Love that place!
