December 2016
Welcome to my 62st newsletter!
Here at the end of 2016, I'm hitting restart.
It's been a couple years since last full edition.
I'm revamping it to be shorter, easier, yet like my homemade chicken soup, still nourishing!
OK... Let's begin with free vocal training!
Top News since last newsletter:
Kacey Musgraves did Crossroads with Katy Perry and also won a bunch of awards.
Kelsie May
was on The Voice
in 2015
She has lots more glam shots, but I like this one:)
Preston James
was on The Voice
in 2016
He has glam shots, too but I like this one:)
Emily Male released her first CD produced by Britton Cameron, me
as voc producer, and launched her life-changing Foodie Fittie enterprise
Jordyn Pepper won a Josie award and released an album that included our song!
Mat Kearney, Leslie of Winfield's Locket, Darby Haas, Amber Trimble got married and had babies. Actually, Darby & husband adopted a little boy.
...oh, and Mat finished the year with an epic tour.
Jon Acuff self-published a NYT best seller.
Jenni Schaefer rocked her event at Vanderbilt University and released our 'Life Without ED' in Japan as J-Pop
to help Japanese girls overcome eating disorders
Skye Dyer
gave a Tedx talk in New York.
AtlanticRecords/ Canvasback artist Adia Victoria released her project and is promoting internationally. I produced couple vocals. Adia was featured on NPR's All Things Considered, and rocked South by Southwest this year.
John and I released our album 'Here We Are' to a standing ovation at our listening party, to several great print reviews and a Spirit Award from Strictly Country. We don't play out much and may not sell a bunch, but we are satisfied and grateful for the response.
And we will forever cherish the memory of Mike Chapman, part of Garth's 'G-men' and who was a part of all the music we made, and who died this year.
I got to do a first this year... I sang a high 'D' in unison with eteran session singer and frequent singing partner/friend Jennifer O'Brien. We were doing bgvs for Dan Auerbach, who apparently didn't think our voices had ceilings! Thank goodness for PPP techniques:)
I videotaped a very comprehensive series of vocal training classes for PCG Online. (That and our album are what put this newletter on hold for so long!) I also spoke at some PCG workshops in Nashville, Dallas and Louisville.
And lastly, a song I co-wrote and produced called "Gambler of us All' made it into the Robert Duvall movie 'Wild Horses'.
There were tons of awesome indie artists, actors, speakers and performers in our All Things Vocal village who released albums, toured, wrote hits, did voiceover and books on tape, spoke and entertained at events. Wish there was time to list everyone... please forgive whoever I forgot here! Let me know what you're doing... I'll feature a few artists every newsletter.
And congratulations especially to all of you who feel more freedom in your voices, no matter how you use them! You make my village rock!!!!!
From my house to yours... Much love... and HAPPY NEW YEAR! - Peter, Judy, granddog & John
