Welcome to my 61st newsletter!

No, I don't have my Christmas decorations up yet... as my observant little student Jordan Futch recently noted... where DOES the time fly? Our fall Florida vacation is long behind us. If you're in winter wonderland, enjoy the snow but invest in a good stash of voice-protecting scarves!

Melody DeForge has released her long-awaited single "Unexpected Love"

My friend, legendary producer, songwriter, singer,  keyboardist Roger Ryan has launched his new label "After Touch Music". It is my high honor to work with his amazing artists, which include Melody(above).
At the celebration party... congratulations, Roger!!

Apollonia Lysandrou advanced to the studio auditions for consideration to represent Cyprus in this year's Eurovision song contest. We are not at present allowed to say more:) Over 300,000 people watch this contest in Europe. In her teens, Apollonia is the youngest participant and one of the few to write her own song!

Shantell Ogden WON IMEA's Americana Album of the year! I have a plaque now hanging in my office for vocal production on that album... thank you and congratulations, girl!!

Southern rocker Billy Devereaux has several songs listed top 5 on the N1M charts, including #1 for his cover of  'Where Did You Sleep Last Night". Congrats, brother!!

Jenny Tolman has a beautiful new website... check it out. Veteran music journalist/author Tom Roland wrote her bio, which may be the best one I've ever read, especially on a new artist. And even better... it's all true!

Dakota Bradley is in the studio working on his new project, singing better than ever, so his producer Byron Gallimore tells me. His summer touring is getting rave reports, too.

...anybody recognize what Dakota's wearing on his head to rehearse?

Artists with new video releases include:

  • Jordyn Pepper launched a strong civil war era video on her haunting single "1862".
  • Michelle Willis spins an energetic, joyful video tale with "Dizzy Love".
  • Kelsey K's video is on her new single "Unforgettable" .  She wrote it with my old friend Pam Belford.
  • Gabrielle Wichert sings this spooky great video cover of "Eyes On Fire". She's the younger (wiser) little girl.
  • Ali Sperry has a wistfully earthy video on her single "Coast".
  • Matt Farris country video is "Officially Done" ! I know. I can't believe I said that:)
Singer, songwriter, entrepreneur Lynn Bryant has launched a new company geared to give back as it grows... "Faith Hope Dreams" offers high fashion that supports children's charities, including her own "Learning For Life" after school program.

Producer Ron Oates invited me to be present at the tracking sessions for Christian rocker TC Cornett at The Parlor Studio. The tracks were fantastic. I look forward to working with TC and Ron on the studio vocals in 2015.

Songwriting:

My partners in rhyme this season included Shantell Ogden (she says it will be on her next album, YAY!), Jon Raven (here from Canada) and Ron Oates (for a movie he's involved with).

Performances:

I was invited along with a cast of other artists to participate in a tribute event for the legendary songwriter Dallas Frazier. Check out this credits page where he lists the artists who have cut his songs... I had no idea how many standards this man created. I covered "Big Mable Murphy" and "Bulah Mae Cafe", thanks to Eddie Heinzelman for guitar accompaniment and Ginny Foley, organizer extraordinare. It was a BLAST, and Dallas could not have been sweeter. It will be broadcast on internet radio in January.

I did a songwriter round with my student and production client Jenny Tolman. It was a musical blast because we definitely know each other's material!

One Jenny-song demanded some mando...
